Natural Recipe Search Engine
Search for natural, delicious, whole food recipes.

About Super Natural Recipe Search

As I mentioned in my note on the front page, I know many of you are trying to incorporate more whole foods and natural ingredients into your cooking and eating. I also know that finding a wide range of inspiring recipes can be a challenge. My hope is that this search engine will help a bit in that regard. It is a custom search engine that will help you find recipes made primarily from minimally-processed, natural, sustainable, whole foods. If you liked the type of recipes I published in Super Natural Cooking, my hope is that this search engine will help you find more recipes created in a similar spirit.

I'm sure you'll recognize many of the sites and individuals who will show up in the search returns here - they include many personal favorites: Yotam Ottolenghi, Bryant Terry, Dr. Weil, Nigel Slater, Rancho Gordo, MollyStevens, Paula Wolfert, ///milk eggs chocolate/// (Alyson Graves), Organic Goodness Daily (Christie Qualey), Jamie Oliver, Massa Organics, Smitten Kitchen (Deb Perelman), The Wednesday Chef (Luisa Weiss), Simply Recipes (Elise Bauer), 101 Cookbooks (me - Heidi Swanson), Thenu's Kitchen (Thenu Tamil), Skye Gyngell, Leif Hedendal, Chris Cosentino, Chocolate & Zucchini (Clotilde Dusoulier), Kathryn Elliott, Design*Sponge, The Chubby Vegetarian (Justin Fox Burks), Martha Rose Shulman, Orangette (Molly Wizenberg), Rebecca Wood, Vegan Yum Yum (Lauren Ulm), The Nourishing Gourmet (Kimberly Harris), Just Bento (Makiko), Whole Foods Market, Saveur, Gourmet, Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, and many more.

This search engine will not query each of the sites in its index in its entirety. Instead, I went through each site page by page, cherry-picking the recipes I could imagine cooking in my own kitchen - again, the ones highlighting whole grains, natural sweeteners, a wide range of flours, and plenty of fresh produce. I populated the search engine with those. A couple thousand to start. And while I don't cook with, say, eggplant or okra very often, there are many cooks who I admire that do - this search engine allows me to highlight those cooks and their recipes here.

Super Natural Recipe Search was built and is updated and maintained by me, Heidi Swanson.

How to Use the Search Engine

The simplest way to start is by entering an ingredient - quinoa, soba noodles, tempeh, potatoes, chives, or whatever you have on hand. Alternately, you might search by the name of a chef or cook you like to see if I've included them here. If I've added them to the search index, you should see their recipes in the returns. Here's something to note though -some of the more established sites/blogs (the ones that have been around longest) are going to often show up at the top of the returns. I encourage you to page down through the returns a bit to discover new recipes, and fresh perspectives. Some of my favorite cooks are hanging out on page 3 or 4 of some of the search returns, and it is worth drilling down to find them. If you search for something and there are no returns, or the returns are strange - please email to supernaturalrecipes AT gmail.com (closed until I get caught up! Thanks for your patience).

Add a Super Natural Recipe Search Widget to your Website

If you'd like to add a Super Natural Recipe Search widget to your website, you can choose from a few designs on this page. The widget can help your readers find (and search) natural food blogs & sites. My hope is - if enough sites install the widget we can star circulating more traffic between the sites/blogs focused on natural & whole foods. There are many of you out there, but you are sometimes hard to find.
